Scrap week continues at Citymade.

We had a bunch of great scraps from some activity mats we made. With a little quilting, we turned them into coasters.

We used a pinwheel quilt pattern and a bamboo batting on the inside. Very easy project and you can always use coasters, right?

Carol and I have been doing so much sewing these past few months that we have collected quite a pile of fabric scraps.  We like to save fabric scraps for our children to “sew” and create with but our stash has grown to such an amount that we thought it appropriate to have a fabric scrap week.

Our first project is a fabric scrap doll quilt.  This was my first experience quilting so I thought a doll quilt would be a nice way to start.  I actually enjoyed making my first quilt so look for future re-purposed quilts to show up on our blog.

We are tying up purse week today with tie wallets. (We wanted to include the men in a post and since men don’t generally use purses.)

We had some old ties, a little out-dated, a little worn. We cut them apart and made three different types of minimalist wallets. No zippers or buttons necessary for these simple and functional wallets.

Carol’s sister Susan asked recently if Melany and her could think of anything to do with juice boxes. Well, we present the juicebox purse.

It’s the perfect size for a little girl’s make-up or to use as treat bags for your little ballerina’s birthday.

We just wrapped the box in fabric that had been sewn and appliqued. We used hot glue to keep it in place and sewed the button and strap on.

Our next purse is made from a ripped pair of cargo pants  (Boys tend to be a little rough on clothes).  We used the cargo pocket on the leg for the outside of the purse.  To finish it off, we added a lining, some velcro for closure and a strap (also make from the cargo pants).

Today’s re-purposing project uses fused plastic bags.

We took some store bags and fused them with an iron (not as easy as the you tube videos by the way). Once the plastic is fused, it is as easy to sew as fabric. We used the messenger purse pattern and added a few pockets. We were also able to use part of the fused bag for a strap.

In keeping with purse week and using old jewelry,  we present the necklace purse.

We had a necklace with a broken clasp. Melany made a purse then added the necklace as the strap. The necklace had eyelets at the bottom which made it easy to attach to the purse.

Purse week continues at Citymade.

Ever wonder what to do with bracelets that you never wear? With a little creativity, you can turn them into handles for small purses and clutch bags. We used scraps of fabric from other projects and some old bracelets that Melany never wore.

We are focusing this week on re-purposing items into purses or bags.

Today we present the doll purse*.

There is a good friend of Citymade, Trisha, who requested a doll purse for her daughter. We decided to use re-purposed jeans (the brown corduroy) for the outside, roof and some of the furniture. We hope Ally likes it:)

*I know, we have featured the doll purse on the site before, but this time we used re-purposed materials for part of it.

Juice Pack bag

I know we have featured our juice pack pencil case before, but today, we have stepped it up.

Presenting the juice pack tote. We laid out a pattern and sewed the packs together and added some bias tape at the top and for the handle.

It is durable, fun, and eco-friendly.
