Presenting the Towel to Pool Tote.

That’s right, summer is here and it is time to head to the pool. To carry our sun glasses, sunscreen and reading material we created this pool tote out of an old beach towel. We sewed it so the flowery design remained on the outside of the bag. now, off we go!

Dish Drying Mat

Dish Drying Mat

Here is another way to re-purpose an old towel.  We took an old hand towel, it doesn’t matter if it is stained or worn,  and sewed some cotton fabric to it (remember the sarong scarf?).

For those of you who sew, we simply sewed it together like a pillow case, (right sides together) flipped it to the right side and then topstitched around the outside about 1/4” in.  We finished it off by quilting some straight lines through the mat parallel to each other. This whole project took about 15 minutes.

The Bolster Pillow

This next towel project turns a couple of old bath towels into something totally different.

The bolster pillow.

We just took 2 old bath towels and rolled them up. Measured some fabric to match a new bedspread and made a comfy round bolster.

Spoiler alert. I also used some batting to make the pillow more beefy.

Towel Re-Do

Towel week continues with a towel redo.

Take that drab hand towel and turn it into a fun and decorative addition to your bathroom.

We found some colorful, wide ribbon and sewed it on the end about 2 inches up from the bottom. Now our plain white towel is a colorful towel and the cost was minimal. No need to buy new towels.

Towel Week Begins

<

It’s Towel Week!

This week we will show you some ideas for re-purposing old towels.  Our first project is a hooded bath towel.  This towel was made by sewing a coordinating wash cloth onto a bath towel.  This towel is great for snuggling little ones after a bath.

Paper Towel Tube to Knife Protector

Protect your knives (and fingers) by re-purposing a paper towel tube into a knife sheath.  Simply flatten the cardboard tube, tape one end together and insert a knife.

Rice to Cell Phone Saver

Have you ever dropped your phone into the toilet? What about putting it through the wash? (Melany?).

Well, if your phone gets wet for some reason, you can dry it by submerging it into a bowl of rice. The rice helps to draw out the water.

However, if your phone gets put in the dryer, then we can’t help you (Melany).

Jeans and a Shirt to Clutch

We have long enjoyed making tote bags and have now expanded into the world of clutches. They are fun, easy and just the right size.

These 3 were made from an old pair of jeans and a shirt. These and more clutches will be at the Benson Summer Arts fest at the City Made booth.

Chop Sticks to Corner Turner

Between artist rolls, sandwich wraps and snack bags, we have a lot of corners to turn. We found that the extra chop sticks (from all those runs to our fav Thai restuarant) became the perfect turning tool for all our City Made projects.

Dress Re-Assembled

Go ahead, mess with the dress.

This dress was City Made daughter, Lauren’s. She did not like to wear it because of the itchy collar and sleeves. We removed them and sewed the seams up and now it is an adorable tank dress. And, now Lauren loves it, yay!
