Re-purposed Tablecloths
I hope you are enjoying following Amber and David’s wedding. Amber did a wonderful job of planning a wedding that was elegant but gentle on the environment. Amber used white sheets that she purchased from thrift stores for her table cloths. She dressed them up with some sage green fabric strips for table runners. Her tables were beautiful and I am sure that no one noticed that they weren’t real table cloths.
Here is another great idea from Amber’s ‘green’ wedding last June.  As we said in an earlier post, Amber made many thrift store runs in planning her wedding.  She talked with the stores about her idea of using mismatched china at for her reception.  Because of this, most of them gave her a big discount on the china pieces.  The china looked very elegant and was cheaper than renting dishes for the wedding.  After the wedding, she let family have first pick at the china and she donated the rest back to the thrift stores.  Genius!

Here are Amber’s re-purposed centerpieces. She used ordinary tin cans, removed the labels and filled them with daisies. She tied raffia bow around the cans for an extra little touch. These were simple, lovely, and very inexpensive. The cans were even re-cycled after the wedding so there was no waste.

As promised, we are featuring some cool, re-purposed wedding ideas from David and Amber’s lovely wedding last summer.
For the reception, Amber collected empty wine bottles ( she asked a winery for their empties). The bottles were then filled with water and lemonade and set at each table. Then we wrote on each “water†or “lemonadeâ€. It was easy and refreshing to have the bottle at each table. A nice touch for not a lot of money.
June and July are big months for city made. Carol and Christian’s wedding anniversary is June 20th and Melany and Jeff’s is July 26th. To celebrate, we are having Wedding Week!
We will feature ideas for weddings that are re-purposed and one project for after the wedding. Many of this week’s ideas came from Amber’s, sister of city made,wedding. She has been married 1 year on June 20th. Happy First Anniversary Amber and David!
Our first project is this nifty note pad made form the left over programs for Carol and Christian’s wedding, 12 years ago.
There were many more programs than guests. Rather than toss them, we just glued them together, using PVA glue, let them dry over night and now we have a handy note pad.
We end father’s day week with this re-purposed bicycle pannier.  Citymade dad Jeff rides often rides his bike to work and carries his computer etc. in his back pack.  This gets quite hot and uncomfortable so he requested a pannier for his bike.
My goal was to make as much of it re-purposed as I could. Â I found a grey vinyl curtain and a black belt at a thrift store.
The outside of the bags are canvas but I lined them with the vinyl curtain. Â I cut the belt and used it for a fastener on one of the bags. Â I also cut a square from the leather belt for embellishment.
To fasten the bags onto the bicycle rack I pulled some d-rings off of an old travel bag and sewed them to the middle of the pannier. Â The d-rings are secured to the rack with a couple of carabiners.
This pannier can easily convert into a messenger bag by clipping a strap onto the d-rings.

Old T-shirt to Dad’s cool silhouette shirt.
We found an old T-shirt (with out holes) and a cute pic of Melany’s girls. By tracing the pic and making a stencil on freezer paper, we could then paint black fabric paint on the T-shirt.
Now Dad can wear a cool Father’s Day T-shirt that doesn’t say “World’s Greatest Dad!â€. (Even though his girls probably think he is).
Today’s Father’s day post combines two favorites of most Dad’s, Beer and Barbeque.
We took an empty beer bottle, made our own special label and found a good bbq sauce recipe. We also used an old cork (saved from an old bottle of beer.) Simply fill the bottle with the sauce and fire up the grill!
We are continuing thinking of Dad this week. Our final project with the old tweed coat is a map bag.( Shhh. It’s for Chirstian.)
We pieced the coat fabric to fit the map bag pattern. Then we used the strap off of an old nylon bag for the strap on the map bag.
That’s it for the tweed, although Christian still has one or two in his closet…
