Foil Bag Bows

Here is an easy and inexpensive way to get pretty silver bows for your holiday gift wrapping.

1.  Start with a foil bag, we used a Vics popcorn bag.

2.  Cut the bag in strips horizontally (you will end of with loops).

3.  Tape the loops together at the center in groups of two (they will look like figure eights).

4.  Tape three sets of loops to each other into a bow shape.

5.  Tape a small foil circle to the center and place on package.

Paint Sample GIft Tags

I (Carol) am forever wanting to change the look of our house. So, I am always picking up paint samples from the home improvement store. The painting never gets done (hint, hint, Christian:)

But we found something we can do with the samples for the holidays. Gift tags.

We cut them into “tag” shapes, punched holes and tied on a ribbon. Now we have a pretty tag for a pretty gift. Maybe one of our sandwich wrap sets?

Christmas Card Gift Tags

Today we have created gift tags using last year’s Christmas cards.

Simply cut out a shape from the front of the card, punch a hole, add some ribbon and attach to the gift.  You can write on the back of the card

or the front.

Wrap it up

Now that you have your shopping done, or maybe not, we want to give you some repurposed gift wrapping ideas.

For today, convert your used cereal boxes into sturdy gift bags.

Start by cutting the tops off of the boxes.  Next, wrap the boxes in gift wrap folding the paper into the top of the box and taping it down on the inside.  Punch four holes into the top of the box and add some matching ribbon for the handles.

These bag boxes a little more sturdy than gift bags and can be reused many times.

Coffee Can to Christmas Cookie Container

Have some old coffee containers around? We do and thought they would make the perfect container for our holiday treat giveaways.

We wrapped some Christmas paper around them and filled them with goodies.

Hand made soap

Don’t worry. We didn’t re-purpose our old soap bars. Although . . .

No. We made soap and added herbs and scents. The re-purposed bit: we used empty yogurt containers and empty juice boxes to mold them.

They turned out so pretty.

Too bad our blog doesn’t have smell, because they smell great! GGI- for teachers!

Men’s shirt to men’s apron

Here’s an apron for the man who likes to cook. And- he can feel extra “manly” because it is made from a man’s shirt.

We simply cut the top of the shirt off and used the 2 sleeves for ties.

We were even able to use the pocket on the shirt. We just added a little seam binding  to make it look nice:)

Happy holiday baking everyone!

Men’s polo apron

Our next apron is made from an old polo shirt from Melany’s F-I-L. We liked the stripes, but didn’t really know what to do with it.

One of our philosophies: when in doubt, sew a ruffle. So we did.

Now it is a cute, fun, practical apron.

And doesn’t Melany’s baby bump look so cute in it!

Dish towel apron

With the holidays comes a favorite tradition, baking! We love to make all kinds of holiday treats. What we don’t like is getting our clothes all messy. So, we are creating some aprons from some things we have around. ( We should mention that the apron inspiration was from friend-of-citymade Michele. Thanks Michele:)

Our first apron was made form an old dish towel.

We added some binding to the top so it would tie.

And for fun we added the little flower.

This qualifies as a GGI! Good Gift idea!

Felted Wool Slippers

Our next several posts will be holiday gift ideas.  Here is a pair of warm slippers made from felted wool sweaters.  We took two coordinating sweaters and felted them.  For felting instructions see our previous mitten ornament post.  To sew the slippers together we used a pattern from one of our favorite books Sewing Green by Betz White.

The slippers were finished off with a blanket stitch in coordinating thread.

We also sewed some small scraps of suede onto the bottom to make them “no slip”.
